Media engineer (video and processing)

10 August 2026· Amsterdam or remote within the EU· Permanent, 32–40 hours

What you will do

You work on the processing pipeline: checksums, duplicate detection, proxies, sprite sheets for hover scrubbing, waveforms and shot detection. All idempotent, all resumable, and visible per step in the interface.

The difficulty is not calling ffmpeg. It is that one broken format must never block the queue, that a failed step has to land somewhere a human sees it, and that re-running must never produce duplicate assets.

What we are looking for

  • Node and TypeScript, and no fear of a shell command with fourteen flags.
  • Experience with queues and background work that genuinely has to finish.
  • Knowledge of media formats, or the curiosity to build it quickly.

What we will not ask

No on-call rota. If something breaks at night, that is a design flaw we fix during the day.
